Mar. 25th, 2024 05:25 am I've been rewatching Free! lately and it's doing something to my brain. I was briefly obsessed with it a couple of years ago, and this is my second time watching it. It feels good to revisit it. I don't think Free! is anything amazing, but it does have its charms. It's lighthearted and chill, which I enjoy. It makes it a very easy watch.
I've finished s1, and it was good! I find the contrast of everyone having fun and then Rin just going through it constantly kind of amusing. His whole character is quite funny to me. He's completely lost sight of what he wants and what swimming means to him, but is too stubborn to admit to himself that he needs friendships in his life to feel better about himself, so he's just fighting back against his own wishes for no reason. He's very mentally ill.
S1 is enjoyable, but not my favorite. I recall s2 being the strongest, but s3 has my personal favorite character, so I'm really excited to watch those again. I am also pretty excited to watch the ending movies, since I never actually got to watch them.
In terms of shipping, I am a multishipper, and Free! has quite a lot of combinations to choose from. Rinharu and Makoharu are the most popular, for obvious reasons, but they don't quite do it for me. I am however a big Makorin fan! Pretty ironic, I guess. I just find it amusing to think that those two somehow get over their homoerotic obsessions with Haru and end up together. Plus the contrast in their personalities scratches an itch in my brain.
I am a big fan of Nitorin as well. Mostly as an unrequited ship, but still. Nitori's crush on Rin, and the way Rin slowly warms up to him are cute to me.
But Sourin is where it's at for me. I was obsessed with them during my Free! phase. I am so excited to watch s2 and experience their relationship all over again.
I've also been thinking about rewatching steven universe. I started following someone who posts about it a lot on twt and it's making me really miss the show. I think I will start my rewatch tomorrow? I have a million other shows to finish, but what's one more, right?
I've been watching Legends of Awesomeness, the kfp nick series, and after making it halfway through I've gotten tired of it. It's just not really adding anything interesting to my perception of the world and the characters. The most worthwhile aspect was Monkey's backstory, which honestly was pretty interesting, and I choose to believe it's canon. There are two other kfp shows, Paws of Destiny and The Dragon Knight. As far as I know, The Dragon Knight is infamously bad, but I've seen interesting things about Paws Of Destiny, so I'm kind of eager to start that one. I have heard it targets relatively young children, but I think I can handle that. Hopefully it'll be better than LOA.
