leejooheonI've always been really bad at listening to albums, so the last few months I've been making an effort to really sit down and listen to albums in full. Today I feel like rambling about the last few I listened to.
I've been slowly getting back into Florence + The Machine, and it's been genuinely really nice to revist their discography. This time I listened to Ceremonials and I honestly don't have too much to say. Great lyricism, great singing, great instrumentals. It was a very good listen, their sound is just so captivating. I find it so hard to describe how their music makes me feel, it's just so spiritual.
I also listened to Taylor Swift's folklore, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think a lot of Taylor's older songs feel very juvenile to me, but some of her most recent albums really feel like she's grown as an artist. It had a really cozy and sentimental feel to it, and some of the lyrics really touched me.
I then listened to Flowers of Flesh and Blood by Nicole Dollanganger. Nicole is a really interesting artist. Her lyrics are really uncomfortable and dark, and there's a very creepy quality to her sound that I haven't really heard from many other artists. The biggest thing holding her back, in my opinion, is that despite her songs feeling different in terms of other artists, when you listen to her songs they tend to feel repetitive. But I do really like her stuff, despite my criticism. She fills a niche not many other people do and her lyricism is very captivating, even if I do believe she crosses the line sometimes with some of her songs.
Lastly, I listened to Inbred by Ethel Cain. It was a very interesting listen, very raw, and I really like the darker sound. Not my favorite thing I've ever listened to, but it was good. I definitely need to check out more of Ethel's work.
