 so i have just found out you apparently have to pay for a username change 😭 that's wild! i was thinking about changing my username, but my acc has existed for such a short period of time, that paying for a username when it would be so much easier to just make a new account and repost my stuff (or keep this as an archive) doesn't feel worth it, no matter the price. i get the site needs to make money somehow but username changes? 

my username is nice, but it was meant to be temporary! earlier this year, a porn bot followed me on tumblr with the same name, and i remember thinking it was a shame a real person didn't come up with that, because it sounded kinda cool. so it was the first thing i could think.

i'll make a new account to try out the username i was thinking about. if it works for me, i'll just move over there.

It's not about removing services in order to make you pay for what you want, it's because changing usernames on Dreamwidth is resource intensive (as in so many changes have to be made that the servers get a work out). Pretty much any perks you get here for paying for a paid subscription are resource intensive. Generally, you pay to get more of what you can use on Dreamwidth, unlike crappy services where you pay to get less garbage (like adverts, messing with your search results, burying your subscriptions/posts under junk you didn't ask for...).

So yeah, creating a new username you prefer and manually moving all your posts there is a good work-around. Hmmm, I wonder. You could look into seeing if you can create a journal on Insanejournal (for instance), export the content of this journal there and then create a new journal here with your preferred journal name and import the posts from Insanejournal. That's a lot of steps. Paying for a name change would be easier. ^_^;
